Flowers of this profolic bloomer consist of golden yellow
petals surrounding a raised dark brown cone.The 2-3 inch flowers bloom
above coarse foliage in summer.

Blackberry lily/Lepeord Lily
A member of the Iris family. The plant gets its
common name from the pear-shaped, green seed pod which opens in fall to reveal a cluster of shiny, black seeds resembling blackberries
lined up inside the seed pod like kernels of corn. The seed heads can
be cut and dried, making an unusual addition to dried flower
arrangements. Blackberry lily has stoloniferous, clump forming roots
from which produce tall, slim, sword-like leaves resembling those of
gladiolus.Flowers are approx. 2 inches wide, resemble six pointed stars and come in different colors.
They can be spotted or not.Blackberry lily requires full sun and well-drained, sandy soil.   Considered a tender bulb, the plants may be overwintered in protected locations or dug up in the fall and stored in a cool, dry place during
the winter. Hardy in Zones 5-10. Leaves growes to about 2-3 feet tall , flowerstalks 3-4 feet.

Blazing Star(Liatris spicata)
Once an obscure wildflowers
native to moist meadows, blazing star now glowes in many gardens.It's
slender bottlebrushesof rosy purple ,bloom from mid summer to fall.Leaves are very narrow and
arranged in whorls around the tall steams ,emphasing the vertical ,feathery effect. Growes to 3 feet tall .Likes full sun,hardy in Zone 3-9.

In early spring it resembles a weedy grass - that light flat open center. Look more closely, you can see the iris characteristics. Bright blue star shaped flowers with gold centers rise above fine, semievergreen, Iris-like foliage from May to June. Excellent for edging, the 3/4" flowers are very good sized for the genus.

This upright, flowering shrub has attractive dark-green foliage on fleshy stems. Showy blue, petunia-like flowers appear throughout the growing season, making this a good choice for a feature or mass planting.Also a great plant for a bog or pond garden. It does well in heat with moderate watering.Can be planted in pot and brought indoor where not hardy.  Hardy in Zones 9-10. Evergreen shrub to 3 feet

A variegated form of Polygonum japonicum var. compactum. It does spread,but it is in no way as aggressive as its green leaved relatives. The new growth starts out with pink and red highlights. As the rounded leaves mature they have a wide irregular white variegation, tinted with pink. The small creamy white flower spikes come in late summer. The bright colors really brighten up a partially shady spot.Can be planted in a bottomless container in the garden to keep it from spreading or can be used as a container plant.

Growes to about 3-4’ tall and is hardy in Zone 4-9

Winter to early-spring flowers on thick stems rising from rosettes of usually evergreen leaves composed of leaflets arranged like the fingers on a hand. Cup- or bell-shaped flowers 1 to 3 inches across in white, pale green, pink or purple. Zones 3-10. Lenten Roses need partial shade and a contantly moist but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Water well and provide mulch where summers are dry.
Lenten rose is perfect for shady patios or courtyard gardens. It is especially suited for small spaces where its subtle beauty can be noticed and appreciated. Lenten rose provides pleasant textural diversion in a bed of hostas and is perfect for moist areas near ponds and water features. Use it in a mixed borders and combine with ferns and other shade lovers in woodland gardens.
